Punzonatura 2018 – calm before the storm at the Mille Miglia

A day before the Mille Miglia caravan sets off for Rome, all the cars assemble in the center of Brescia for inspection and for the “Punzonatura” – the stamping of a lead seal onto the steering column of each competing vehicle. This “calm before the storm” has its very own very special mood. Mechanics get a last chance to work on the cars on Brescia’s Expo grounds before the Mille Miglia officials meticulously inspect each one to confirm its originality. Drivers can spend these final peaceful hours wandering through the Expo paddock and studying the roadbook.

Our photographer Julien Mahiel attended the Punzonatura and visited the paddock on Brescia’s exhibition grounds.
