This year the Concorso d’Eleganza pays homage to the Roaring Twenties. The organizers from carmaker BMW and the Villa d’Este luxury hotel have taken the 1920s, and particularly F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel “The Great Gatsby”, as their stylistic inspiration.Visitors and participants are taken back to this almost mythical age by cars made by Duesenberg and other legendary manufacturers. To get everyone in the mood, the Hollywood version of “The Great Gatsby”, starring Leonardo di Caprio, is being shown on the Friday evening at an open-air cinema in the middle of the estate.  Another nod to the event’s literary inspirationwill come at a gala dinner held in the Villa Visconti.

The 85th edition of the Concorso is also the tenth sponsored by BMW.The Munich carmaker has always deliberately been a neutral host:this year’s Concorso might include a special exhibition to celebrate the 110th anniversary of its famous Rolls Royce subsidiary, but the 100th birthday of its Italian rival Maserati is also being recognized with a special show category. This competition for the most beautiful Maserati will include a 450 S race car,one of only nine that were ever manufactured.
